{"id":73,"date":"2009-03-07T18:29:14","date_gmt":"2009-03-07T18:29:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/causeandeffectdogtraining.com\/blog\/?p=73"},"modified":"2010-06-17T23:05:01","modified_gmt":"2010-06-17T23:05:01","slug":"being-a-mother","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/causeandeffectdogtraining.com\/blog\/2009\/03\/07\/being-a-mother\/","title":{"rendered":"Being a Mother"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My dogs are my kids, period.\u00a0 Maybe\u00a0 someone that has human children will balk at this, yet,\u00a0 every ounce of being feels like I am mothering at the deepest core.<\/p>\n<p>I teach how to be the centered and calm leader to your dogs.\u00a0 This is still an ongoing process for me too!\u00a0 I know that my deepening spiritual practice has made me a better leader.\u00a0 The more I discover about myself\u00a0 and heal my wounds-\u00a0 the more I give wisely and purely to my dogs.<\/p>\n<p>Yet- here is where I am still &#8220;stuck&#8221;-\u00a0 I put my dogs needs before my own,\u00a0 almost always. Just as a mother would.\u00a0 I cannot allow any of them to ever be hurt, lonely, scared, or confused.\u00a0 I make their world so safe and secure so they are never lost.\u00a0 Sometimes, I do this to the detriment of my own life.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t go out now because Benjamin is home all day alone and I feel like he really wants my attention at night.\u00a0\u00a0 I don&#8217;t go to the spiritual retreats I would like to go to because I don&#8217;t have anyone to be with my dogs.\u00a0 (Yes- I don&#8217;t trust anyone enough).\u00a0 I have created hobbies I can do at home so that my dogs will not be left alone.<\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0 know why I do this\u00a0 ( a therapy a-ha moment).\u00a0 I do this- because I am parenting them exactly as I would have wanted to be parented.\u00a0 To be held in such a safe and loving cocoon where no fear is ever let in.\u00a0 I am living my childhood through my dogs.\u00a0 Their security gives me the deepest peace of mind. When their pain has been unavoidable- like the many surgeries this past year- it&#8217;s as if I am the one being cut open, the pain is so vivid to me, it leaves me breathless.\u00a0 So I dig even deeper to make their world sane and kind.<\/p>\n<p>My spiritual practice is to keep giving them this depth of love and security\u00a0 AND to find some space for me and my life.\u00a0 This is no easy task.\u00a0 I am a Mother, first and foremost, so building another identity feels like a massive construction process. Yet- I know I need this.\u00a0 I need some space to let in other aspects of me.\u00a0 To grow and prosper as a women separate from these beings.<\/p>\n<p>I know too- that my dogs want this for me.\u00a0 They want me to open up to all my potential.\u00a0 They want me to evolve and heal.\u00a0 My growth will show them that I can hold the ground for them too.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t need to live my life through them.\u00a0 Rather, we can be side by side on this journey of Life, holding each other up.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My dogs are my kids, period.\u00a0 Maybe\u00a0 someone that has human children will balk at this, yet,\u00a0 every ounce of being feels like I am mothering at the deepest core.
