{"id":115,"date":"2009-03-31T17:09:53","date_gmt":"2009-03-31T17:09:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/causeandeffectdogtraining.com\/blog\/?p=115"},"modified":"2010-06-17T23:05:17","modified_gmt":"2010-06-17T23:05:17","slug":"up-all-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/causeandeffectdogtraining.com\/blog\/2009\/03\/31\/up-all-night\/","title":{"rendered":"Up all night"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sunday night-\u00a0 Benjamin was up all night vomiting and shaking.\u00a0 He could not get comfortable- pacing, digging, panting.\u00a0 Needless to say, I was up all night with him too.\u00a0 By 9am, I decided to take him to the hospital.\u00a0 He was there all day- getting blood work , xrays, and fluids.\u00a0 All the tests came back normal.\u00a0 So we have no idea why this happened.\u00a0 I am not sure I like that outcome.<\/p>\n<p>Poor guy was so exhausted- he has been sleeping since 7pm last night and its now\u00a0 10am.\u00a0 I just want his body to rest and recuperate.\u00a0 He felt soooo bad.<\/p>\n<p>How did I handle this?\u00a0 I kept myself from going into a deep panic, but I was a crying girl at the vet&#8217;s.\u00a0 I just don&#8217;t know how not to take on his pain.\u00a0 I actually think I take it on 100 times more than what he is experiencing because I put fear on top of the pain.\u00a0 I create stories that shouldn&#8217;t exist like\u00a0 &#8221; He is scared&#8221;\u00a0 &#8220;He is not going to get better.&#8221;\u00a0 &#8220;He is helpless.&#8221;\u00a0 I am reading a great Zen book that talks about a simple technique that can begin to put space between the scary thoughts and yourself.\u00a0 It tells you to label your thoughts as they are happening.\u00a0 So instead of saying\u00a0 &#8220;Benjamin is scared.&#8221;\u00a0 I would say\u00a0 &#8220;Having a thought that Benjamin\u00a0 is scared.&#8221;\u00a0 What this clearly does is show the possibility that the thought may not be true.
