Kathy Kear has been INVALUABLE HELP in training our rescued dogs, Bella and Chauncie. Bella came to us with indications that she'd had a rough first year of life (part of her ear bitten off and scars on her face and legs from a former dogfight): sweet with people but defensive, dominant, undersocialized, and fearful with dogs - you know the type.
Before meeting Kathy, we'd tried several different trainers, training styles, and training collars, none which made her managable, and a few that made her a bit more maniacal... We wondered if we'd ever be able take her for a walk safely, much less, enjoy a walk together! Kathy changed everything, and we saw a HUGE difference in Bella's behavior after the first meeting. Kathy showed us how to properly and humanely use a prong collar, how to appropriately respond to Bella's obnoxious behavior, and gave us the tools to train Bella to be calm around other dogs, in a short period of time. (We found ourselves to be pretty easily trained as well...) Bella is now a dog who can be easily controlled, unmistakably feels less nervous, and is sincerely fun to be around, outside of the house!
Chauncie also came to us with indications that he'd had a rough, former 4 years of life - he shows great signs of neglect and strong suspicions with people (but good with dogs). Chauncie was taking a while to train, dragged his humans on walks, and frenitically bolted around trying to escape and/or growled if a stranger made eye contact with or came near him. Kathy, again, saved the day! After our first meeting, it was clear that we became better leaders, and see an obvious difference in Chauncie's behavior. Kathy taught us how to deal with Chauncie's shyness, and respond appropriately to fearful behaviors like growling and trying to escape, along with his other assorted shticks. Chauncie is now MUCH easier to walk, and growing more confident as well.
As if that isn't great enough: Kathy's been wonderful at quickly responding to my calls and questions, kindly making herself available to help with issues and questions that inevitably come up. She is an extremely competant, patient, reasonable and trustworthy person and dog trainer. Without Kathy, we'd still be struggling through the daily doggie soap opera of "The Disagreeably Unpleasant and the Apprehensive Stalwart." Thank you Kathy!
